There's also an unofficial PPA and installer script for Ubuntu/Mint:
https://launchpad.net/~smathot/+archive/ubuntu/cogscinl
To run the program, open a terminal, navigate to the unzipped subdirectory, and run the script:
./run-zotero.shYou will see the Standalone icon in the Unity launcher on the left. You can set it permanently in the launcher by right-clicking and selecting "keep in launcher" -- but after stopping Standalone, clicking on the icon will not work, yet.
To activate the icon, you will need to create a *.desktop file for the script. Here is a thread from Ubuntu Launchpad that explains how to do that:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/76342/how-can-i-add-a-bash-script-to-the-unity-launcher
That page has install instructions for the PPA, and there's also a GUI-only version of instructions for adding PPAs in general available at http://askubuntu.com/questions/4983/what-are-ppas-and-how-do-i-use-them/40351#40351
