Do I need Zotero account to sync if I have my own WebDAV service?

I am trying to use zotero software for reference management with several of my colleagues. I would like to use the WebDAV service provided by my company. Do I still need zotero.org account and why?

    Zotero uses WebDAV only for file syncing. Metadata syncing, which requires more advanced capabilities on the server, currently requires a zotero.org account.

    (The specification for WebDAV SEARCH, an extension to the WebDAV protocol that would provide some of these capabilities, was published a couple months ago, and, if widely implemented, it might allow for efficient metadata syncing via standard WebDAV servers, but even parts of the existing WebDAV protocol are currently unimplemented by some servers.)
