OS X High CPU Usage

While working in the library today I noticed my battery as draining fast.

It seems that when a user has automatic syncing enabled, and runs out of cloud storage (as I have), the Zotero standalone app doesn't handle it well behind the scenes. The app functions normally, but even when idle it uses over 100% CPU (i.e. more than one full core). I don't know if it's continually trying to sync and failing, or what, but turning off automatic sync immediately reduced the CPU usage.
  • You don't need to (and shouldn't) disable auto-sync. You can just disable file syncing, and you should if you're out of space and don't want to upgrade your storage plan. Otherwise Zotero will keep trying to upload files and keep failing. (It will handle that better in a future version, but there's still no need to have it try if you're out of space anyway.)
  • I stopped experimenting with which option to disable when I found one that stopped draining my battery. It's nice to know what's been killing my battery life the last few days.
