Shortcut to open Zotero pane fails with new tab

In Firefox 3.0.5, Mac OS X 10.5.6, when I have opened a fresh and empty tab, the shortcut to open the Zotero pane, cmd+shift+Z, won't do anything. When I go to a webpage, or simply enter about:blank in the address bar, the shortcut comes to life.
  • It's not the new tab—it's when focus is in a text box, in this case the Firefox address bar. We use the same shortcut as Redo on OS X, and in Firefox 2 we used to override Redo completely. In Firefox 3, Redo takes precedence when a text box has focus, which is actually convenient in that it allows the use of Redo when necessary and otherwise the use of a very nice shortcut for Zotero. The downside is that this applies to the address bar as well, which has focus by default in new tabs.

We could possibly override Redo in the address bar, but I don't know that we want to do that. The simple workaround is to hit Tab twice (to clear address and search bars) or click on some whitespace in the content area before hitting Cmd-Shift-Z.
