p. and pp. with CMS 16th

I am working with a publisher that uses p. and pp. for page numbers in citation (not, however, bibliography of journal articles etc.), and being a little timid with editing the .csl file, I wonder if someone knows either (1) an existing .csl that already does this or (2) directions for me to edit the .csl toward this end.

I realize this has been on the discussion board before, but I have not yet succeeded in implementing.
  • what type of in-text citations are you looking for? Any other requirements on the citation style?
  • Thank you, adamsmith. All citations are in footnotes (no in-text), otherwise following CMS 16th, full citation style.
  • find these two sections in the style
    1.
    <choose>
    <if locator="page" match="none">
    <label variable="locator" form="short"/>
    </if>
    </choose>

    2.
    <choose>
    <if locator="page" match="none">
    <label variable="locator" form="short" suffix=" "/>
    </if>
    </choose>

    And change them to

    1. <label variable="locator" form="short" suffix=" "/>

    2. <label variable="locator" form="short"/>

    respectively.

    General instructions here: https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step
  • Thank you so much. I'm afraid I'm not succeeding, despite your instructions.

    1. Am I right to assume that I am only replacing the <label variable= . . . > lines and not the five lines with one?

    2. When I try to add my new, edited style in Firefox, it does not let me add it separately and seems to override with the old style (or at least the date would suggest as much).

    The step-by-step instructions do not clarify this problem for me.

    Thanks.
  • 1. No, you're replacing 5 lines with 1 in both cases.
    2. You need to change id and style name. The step by step instructions do cover that explicitly.
