new Office for Mac & (very) long documents

one somewhat unfortunate limitation with zotero is that it slows down quite considerably when using it for long word documents (with many references); as far as i understood from the related forum entries this is due to word (re-pagination) as well as zotero; I was wondering whether this got better with the new word for mac (2016) which was recently released; any experiences with this?
  • The new office for mac seems much faster than the old version for long documents with Zotero.

Here are some comparisons between Office 2016 for Mac and Office 2013 for Windows:

Same document with 100 pages and 301 unique Zotero references (many are cited multiple times).

Both open and search nearly instantaneously.

For updating the document after editing a reference, here are the times I got:

    APA 6th edition.

    With the bibliography inserted
    Mac: 43.33
    Windows: 41.37

    Without the bibliography inserted
    Mac: 09.85
    Windows: 05.15

Running additional trials and averaging them yield similar results. On both platforms, without the bibliography, editing citations with many sources or sources with multiple authors (requiring checking of et al.) took longer.
  • Very helpful answer. Many thanks!
