collection management questions - move multiple subcollections?

Is there any way to move a large number of sub collections to another area? I've tried command/shift/option click etc but can select more than one.

Alternatively, can the parent of a collection be deleted without destroying all of the sub collections?

This isn't possible at the moment. We've talked a little about multiple collection selection before, though I think mostly in the context of viewing items from multiple collections at once, which is a lot more complicated and not necessarily a good idea. But I can certainly see a number of uses for the selection part itself — your use case, moving collections out of the automatic collection that's created on import, copying multiple collections to another library — so it might make sense to add support for multiple selection to start and not worry about showing contents for now.
