[MLZ] syncing error

MLZ displays syncing error "req.sendAsBinary is not a function" and, after "submit report": "invalid response from repository". Zotero seemed down as of July 6, 2015 (approx. 8.50am), but is now working (otherwise I would not be able to access the forum). Help please?
PS: One of our group has difficulties with syncing because of storage limitations (this person works with attachments/uploads, I do not) - could that be the cause of my problems?
Thank you in advance!

  • Frank will have more details on this, but basically, in order to run Firefox 39, you'll need to run the re-branded juris-m instead of MLZ. I don't think much about it has changed otherwise.
  • Yes, what adamsmith said.

Try reinstalling the "Library Client" from https://juris-m.github.io Juris-M is level with the current Zotero release, and should work fine with Firefox 39.

Juris-M no longer replaces Zotero, and it will not replace MLZ: it is now a separate program. To prevent chaos, it will not run when Zotero is activated, though. Watch video #1.1 in the Howto page for an illustration the the install steps:

  • Thank you very much indeed: I will read and see what I can do.

  • Dear Adam Smith, dear Frank Bennett, we get "unable to connect" when trying to access http://our.law.nagoya-u.ac.jp/howto/.
IF we somehow managed to switch from MLZ to Juris-M, will data be migrated or will we have to export and import them? MLZ is working fine with FF38.0.5, and I am using it right now. Why does FF not support MLZ any longer - or is it the other way round?
    Please advise me.
    Thank you very much!!!

Our website went offline. Should be back now, sorry for the inconvenience.

Your data will migrate transparently from MLZ to Juris-M.

Firefox provides a rich set of utilities, which are the building blocks of Zotero, and Zotero is the base on which MLZ or Juris-M are built. Zotero is a complex application, and sometimes changes made in Firefox (for good engineering reasons) affect core functions on which Zotero depends. When that happens, the Zotero developers update their code, and I pull their work into Juris-M.

This kind of cascading update (from core language, to applications, to derivatives) is common in software. Once you install Juris-M you should be back in business.
  • Dear Frank Bennett,
thank you very much for your explanation. I do know that coding and keeping the code on current standards amounts to a lot of work, I also read your comment on the MLZ website and completely understand the rationale behind your strategy.
    Yours sincerely,
    Bettina Rabe
  • Dear Frank,

I encountered the same issue and just saw that my colleagues from Heidelberg beat me to asking you about it.
Following your advice I installed juris-M and it works fine with one exception: I used to employ zotfile to manage file attachments but this does not seem to work with juris-M (it did work with MLZ). Is it still possible to use that extension/will it become compatible again at a later date? Do I just have to change some preferences/re-install it?
Should I contact the zotfile-developer instead of you/are you in contact?

Any help/suggestions are very much appreciated!
    Best wishes from Kyoto,
    Ole
  • Dear Frank Bennett,
thank you very much for Juris-M, it does work very nicely. However, I will follow Bjoern Ole Kamm's thread and see what we are going to learn from it.
    Yours sincerely, Bettina Rabe
