Won't Sync (EC 0x80004005 in db.js)

The sync preview works fine on my Windows computer running XP Pro (32-bit) and on my iMac running Leopard. However, it does not work on my Windows computer running XP Pro x64 and FF 3.0.4. Instead, I get an error message w/ error code 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) at Line 13 of JS frame chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/db.js.

Given that the name of the directory in which the module is located is called "xpcom," might the problem have something to do w/ XP x64?

P.S. I did send in an error log about this last week, but I've not heard anything back.

Similar problem here under Linux (Kubuntu 8.10, FF 3.0.5), I reported it with the ID 488969195. The complete error message is:

    [JavaScript Error: "tipElement.ownerDocument is null" {file: "chrome://browser/content/browser.js" line: 2203}]

[JavaScript Error: "[Exception... "'[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [mozIStorageStatement.execute]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/db.js :: anonymous :: line 123" data: no] [QUERY: DELETE FROM creatorData WHERE creatorDataID=?] [ERROR: constraint failed]' when calling method: [nsIDOMEventListener::handleEvent]" nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)" location: "<unknown>" data: no]"]
  • I too get the same message when trying to sync my laptop (windows xp) but I don;t have a problem on my desktop (vista)- any ideas what I can do to fix it?

More of same message: I have no problem with XP Pro x64 desktop, but laptop running XP Pro 32-bit fails to sync and returns this same message: '[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [mozIStorageStatement.execute]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/db.js :: anonymous :: line 123" data: no]

In debug output, this is followed by [QUERY: DELTE FROM creatorData WHERE creatorDataID=?] [ERROR: constraint failed]

then there are some lines about rolling back transaction, resetting notifier event queue, reloading tags and so on,,,
  • Same story problem (OS 10.5)
  • Anybody ever figure this out... I think I'm getting the same issue...

  • I saw a similar error when I was running out of disk space. Once I freed up some space I was fine. I restored my data from the server:

gear icon > preferences > sync > restore

Which might not have been necessary. But in any case the restore seems to have worked properly.

Interestingly I was NOT running out of disk space for the zotero database, but rather for the OS (ubuntu linux). In other words, the boot partition was running out but not my home.

I suspect there may be more than one problem here, but hopefully this helps someone.
  • still having the problem.
I have enough disk space and tried to restore few times already.
