Translators listed as working issues

Hi all,
first post here.

I Just started using Zotero and I'm pretty impressed. In any case I usually look for references in three sites that are listed as working but I found problems of various degree in each one.

1) http://www.sciencedirect.com

Cannot save single references nor multiple references from a collection giving the error message "could not save Item. An error accourred while..."

2) http://springerlink.metapress.com/home/main.mpx

Both the collecction and the single reference icons in the address bar are missing

3) http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/

Saves correctly the single references but returns an error ("could not save Item. An error accourred while...") when trying save a collection.

Hope this can help

  • It seems to be having trouble with Spanish-language references from the Library of Congress website. When I try to save them, it says, "an error occurred while saving this item. Please try again. If this error persists, please contact the translator author." And it has happened just in the last few days with multiple Spanish-language books at LOC.

    Thanks! Love Zotero otherwise!
  • lutra: Thanks for identifying these problems. I have updated the Blackwell Synergy and SpringerLink translators, and your Zotero client will automatically download them within the next 24 hours. I could only replicate your problem with ScienceDirect when accessing the service anonymously (i.e. not through a subscriber network or proxy). ScienceDirect does not make their metadata publicly available, so Zotero can only import items through the subscriber interface.

sarab: Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. We are aware of some foreign character set issues and are working to update our MARC translator.
  • I think there is a problem with the translator for the Smithsonian's SIRIS library catalog. I just tried to snag the citation for a manuscript collection. Here is the URL:

    http://siris-archives.si.edu/ipac20/ipac.jsp?&profile=all&source=~!siarchives&uri=full=3100001~!209237~!0#focus

I clicked on the little book image that appeared at the right-hand side of my browser's address bar. And then an error message came up that said "Could Not Save Item." Could you check whether this translator is malfunctioning?
  • EBSCO Host

Updated to FF3 & Z1.0.6. Now icon shows, but Will not translate references. Sample URL:

  • gwmaui: It's likely a problem with cookies in your Firefox profile, which some people have been experiencing in Firefox 3.

    See http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/3281/

I'd recommend following my advice there and trying a new Firefox profile. (Deleting the cookie files doesn't seem to do the trick, and we don't yet know which files are causing the problem.)
