changed format and author names

Hi everybody,
I have two problems with Zotero.
1/ Whenever I insert a new citation in Word, its default font format is always different from the one I am using. I don't know how to change the default format.
2/ I have a citation like this (John, 2000). AFTER that citation, I have another citation with the same author in different years, say, (John & Barron, 2003). However, when I attempt to insert the second citation, Zotero changes the name of John which appears twice by adding his first name initial in both citations. Specifically, they become (P. John, 2000) and (P. John & Barron, 2003). Worse still, the font format is also changed back to the default - the first problem I just said.

Can anyone show me how to configure to fix those problems? I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks so much.
I look forward to your reply.
  • On the first issue Zotero should be using the default style for the bibliography. Instead of changing the the formatting on individual entries try changing the style globally in word.

Issues involving abbreviated names generally come from having one author with two different names in the bibliography. Check to see if John and Barron are listed identical on each item. For example if on one item you have "Paul John" and on another you have "P. John" Zotero has no way to know that those are the same people. For all Zotero knows its actually "Paul John" and "Peter John". In those cases your Zotero will try to disambiguate them with the first initial.

For the time being the solution is to make their names consistent in Zotero. There are other potential solutions in the pipe but it will be a while.
  • Thanks so much, Tjowens.
