Word for Mac 2016, Preview

Hello:

I am previewing Word for Mac 2016 and am trying to manually install the plugin. I understand that this edition of Word is not yet out nor can I reasonably expect Zotero to support it, but I thought there might be a quick fix that others may know.

Machine: Macbook Air, completely updated.

Attempt 1:

When I manually add Zotero.dot as a "global template," I can see the menu choices (e.g. "edit bibliography") as macro choices. When selected, I get a message that Word cannot communicate with Zotero.

Attempt 2:

Added Zotero.dot to startup folder for Word. Result: no change.

With both attempts, exited/restarted all associated programs and the machine as many times as there were major changes.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. FYI, it looks like this new version of word comes with a clunky citation manager.

Thanks!
  • won't work: https://github.com/zotero/zotero-word-for-mac-integration/issues/6
The Sanboxing issue, the way I understand it, makes this very difficult if at all possible at this time.
  • Thanks. Apparently Microsoft will release Word for Mac 2016 this fall, and will look forward to full Zotero integration at that time.
  • I am leaving this as a reference for someone who might be in the same spot. This is not a solution that is better than using Zotero with an older established and supported version of Word.

A temporary fix that allowed me to have updated bibliographies and citations--

    1. export the needed Zotero library through JabRef in order to get a .xml file
    2. Modify the Sources.xml file that contains the bibliography library that Word for Mac draws from.

It's a temporary workaround, if you're desperate like me. I ultimately found it easier to dig up an old laptop with an older version of Word.
