Creating a citation/bibliography for a pdf

Using National Library of Medicine citation/bibliography style, I would like to cite a pdf from the JAVMA. When I right click on the pdf & choose create bibliography from item or retrieve metadata for pdf, I get the respective messages - "The items you have selected contain no references. Please select one or more references and try again" and "no matching references found". So what do I do? I am not a very computer literate person and this is frustrating.

Thanks for your help.
Chris
  • You'll want to make sure the PDF is attached to a Zotero item which holds the citation data used to generate the citation. In many cases this can be done automatically using:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/retrieve_pdf_metadata

@Dan/@aurimas -- we should put automating that process higher on the agenda. Been getting a lot of questions about that lately, it's clearly a cause of confusion.
  • As mentioned in my initial post, I tried this and got the message "no matching references found".
  • sorry, missed that somehow. You'll need to use "Create Parent Item" and fill the data in manually then.
