java issue while installing Openoffice AddIn

I am running Windows 8, OpenOffice 4.1.1 and Firefox 38.05.

While installing the Openoffice-AddIn I run into a Java issue.

I have Java 8 JDK (i.e. Development Kit) installed, which includes the JRE. But the AddIn installer complains that there is no Java installed. :-)

Of course, I can not run both the JRE and the JDK. Is there a way to make the AddIn installer run (without removing JDK, installing JRE and reinstalling JDK to satisfy the installer)?

Cheers,
Andrew
  • do you have a JRE active under Tools in OpenOffice? That's what the add-on cares about.
  • nope. Activation fails. When pointing to the directory in which the JRE resides OpenOffice complains that the folder doesnt contain a JRE.

I double checked it (Eclipse JRE configuriation, and Java system-wide configuration;) Both are fine with it. But OpenOffice is not.
  • yeah, that's what you'll need to fix. I don't think we'll be able to be of much help unfortunately (since that's really not part of Zotero and should/does work in a normal Ooo/Java setup), but the Ooo folks/forums might be.
  • thx, anyway!
  • fixed. If anyone runs into the same problem under Windows:

OpenOffice (Windows) is 32-Bit one and hence demands a 32-Bit JRE.

Install a 32-Bit JRE, that then may coexist with your 64-Bit one.
