Zotero crashes (Standalone & Firefox) with word plug-in

hello forum.

desperate question...
suddenly zotero crashes every time I wanna use it. I checked everything, I downloaded the standalone version - everything seems up to date.

I THINK I made a big mistake by putting comments into the "prefix"-slot while generating footnotes.
I did not know this could cause a problem.
any suggestions how to solve this?

I cannot generate a bibliography for my 80pp. chapter nor add or edit the footnotes (-->cannot remove the text I have entered...).

problem is: this is my doctoral thesis, the deadline is in two weeks. I deal with every chapter in a seperate document.
my plan was to copy everything together in the end and let zotero generate the whole bibliography...
this problem occured now suddenly around page 80.
I just tried a 20pp. document. everything seems to work so far here...

any ideas what I can do?

I would be more than grateful for any support!

***Thanks!!

  • Could you provide more details? Does Zotero not start at all? If so, does it display a message? Does it shut down randomly? If so, are you doing anything specific when it does (since you mention the Word doc)? Do you get a non-responding message? If so, does that appear right on start up, or following a specific action? Also, how long have you let it run?
  • Thank you. Of course: It starts. I open the word doc. I try to add a citation while using the word plug-in.
The red citation box opens. Immediately after typing the first letter it freezes: Zotero has crashed.

If I try to edit a finished citation. Nothing happens: Zotero has crashed.

  • (forum category doesn't matter).
When you say "Zotero has crashed" -- I'm still not clear what that means? It has just stopped working or it has shut down? (Crash usually refers to the latter, freeze to the former. The difference may not matter for you -- either means it stopped working -- but is quite important on the troubleshooting end).
  • Ok, sorry. It freezes!
  • Long documents can sometimes be slow. Have you let it run for a while? How long?
