Style Request: British Psychological Society (BPS)

Hello all

This style is widely used in the UK by psychologists - I couldn't find it in the 'style repository' and there doesn't appear to have been any discussion about it in the forums.

In the BPS Style Guide, Chapter 9 - Citation of sources, it is described as being "based on APA reference style but with minor variations detailed here". Rather than list the differences myself, it seems wiser for people to follow this link to that style guide, where the differences between BPS and APA styles are detailed more coherently than I could hope to achieve:

Unfortunately, I just don't feel competent at attempting to create this style myself - I've never done any kind of programming before. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated and I'm sure it would be widely used in the UK.

i didn't mean to add this as an entirely new discussion, I just meant to add it as a comment to the 'What other citation formats would you like Zotero to generate?' thread. I'm a bit new with these forums...

Actually you're already following the new guidelines :)

Maybe you could move your style request to the preferred forum category though (it should be 'Citation Styles'). You can do this by clicking the edit button next to your first post, and change the category in which the post is placed.

I would move it there, but I'd already copied and pasted it into a new thread in that forum category... if I move this one now then they'll be two identical threads in that category, I guess? can't see an option to 'delete' this one unfortunately...

I just looked at the BPS style guide, but it seems only to explicitly list two differences compared to APA:

* italicised "et al." - It's not yet possible to write a CSL style for Zotero that does this.
* don't use a series comma ("One modification is to ignore the APA preference for the
series comma (i.e. the comma before and, & or et al. except after a single name)")

The only other thing that caught my eye was the use of et al. for in-text citations (3 or more authors), which was set to 6 authors of more in the APA style already available for Zotero.

I uploaded a style for BPS based on these last two differences. If you spot any other changes to the style that have to be made, just post them in this thread. The new style is available in the style repository (http://www.zotero.org/styles, listed under Additional Styles, British Psychological Society).

Thanks so much for your time and work on this Rintze - it's really appreciated. I'm just getting to grips with Zotero and it seems like its going to be really useful, and it certainly helps that people like yourself are willing to help newbies like me!
