Zotero sync server did not accept your username and password.

This is for report id: 1622156501. I'm using Zotero standalone from my laptop and school desktop. For some reason the sync is fine for my laptop, but my school desktop zotero gives me an error saying: "Sync server did not accept your username and password." I keep putting in the same username and password as my Zotero on my laptop, but it just gives me an error, so the sync from my desktop has stopped. I think the sync was fine a few weeks ago, and now I'm unsure what caused this. Please help.

    [JavaScript Error: "NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Couldn't decrypt string" {file: "resource://gre/components/crypto-SDR.js" line: 165}]
[JavaScript Error: "uncaught exception: Password not set"]
Is a password set when you return to the Sync settings? Usually this message is genuinely about an incorrect username/password, but if when you return to the prefs your password is missing it indicates a problem with the login database — and that first message above, which is from the Mozilla framework that Zotero uses, might be related.

If you're running any security software, try disabling it. If that doesn't help, you can try deleting the signons.sqlite file [Edit: see below] in your Zotero profile directory and restarting Zotero.
  • Hi thanks for replying-
Yes when I return to the prefs my password is missing. I disabled security software but that didn't fix it. I also tried looking for the signons.sqlite file but I can't locate it. Is it directly underneath my Zotero profile directory, or do I need to go through more folders?
  • Actually, it looks like signons.sqlite isn't used anymore. Try deleting cert8.db, key3.db, and logins.json instead.
  • Thanks! That solved the problem!
  • Dear Developers,

it would be great if the error message which suggests to delete signons.sqlite could be updated. At least the german error message still mentions signons instead of cert8.db, key3.db and logins.json.

It took me some while to find this post ;)
  • Sorry about that. Fixed for the next version.
