Cannot save Citations from library or google scholar page

Report ID 1684633781

I am using google scholar in firefox to save citations in zotero. When clicking the folder icon next to the url, it lists all the citations in the pop up window but on selecting the citations they is not saved in zotero. The same problem occurs while using a library website.

I have reinstalled zotero in forfox and checked for updates. This has never happened before so not sure what is wrong. Please help!!

  • How about saving from an Amazon product page? If that fails, see Troubleshooting Translators Issues.

If that works, can you provide a Debug ID for a save attempt that fails from Google Scholar?

It worked for amazon.com but not for google scholar. I did reset the translators too a few minutes back.

Here is the Debug ID: D2082544827

Check your cookie settings (currently Step 10 on the linked page).
  • Just checked, they are as per the step.
  • Dan: The translator is still not working on google scholar. The pop up window opens but when I select the citation it is not saved in zotero. Please help!
  • and you've tried disabling all other Firefox add-ons, restarted and tried again?
  • Which article are you trying to save? Is this article (first one) working?
  • in the google scholar settings, set bibtex links to show. See if that helps
(That's at the bottom of the page: Show links to citations in. . . )
Would also be good to know if those changes stick if you restart Firefox.

@zuphilip -- maybe you have a specific idea what could be going on, in that case ignore this, but otherwise: this is almost certainly because of bibtex not showing. the "type was mediascreenand" is exactly the debug we see in those cases.
  • @adamsmith: No, no special idea.
  • Zuphilp: the problem persists, i tried with multiple searches. I used your link to click on the folder icon, the list appears, i select the first article, the zotero notification (bottom right screen) opens but doesn't save anything to zotero. the only extensions enabled are zotero and zotero word plug in.

    here is the debug ID:D280210167

when i tried the same in zotero standalone it works. I'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong

Adam: The google scholar setting is not set to bibtex. but it is not letting me save the setting to scholar in firefox. it doesn't allow me to change and save the setting.

However, if i open google scholar in chrome, the setting it set at bibtex.
How do i change it in firefox??
  • "it doesn't allow me" -- that would be the reason this isn't working, then. Zotero tries to do that and apparently fails just like you.
What exactly happens if you try?
  • i save it. but when i reopen it, the changes are not saved. Also, if it is of any help, right below the save button, there is a notification, "to save the changes, turn on the cookies".

When I check the preferences, the setting is always remember history.
  • You could see if removing all cookies under "Clear your recent history" will work. Something about your cookie settings appears broken in Firefox
  • Success!! I cleared history but it didn't work, so i finally uninstalled everything- zotero and firefox, and reinstalled again. it worked :) the google scholar settings are alright.

Thank you so much guys for the prompt help!! I was so scared to even think of abandoning zotero for anything else! You are awesome!! :D
