Saving references from chrome causes standalone to crash

When I save a reference from chrome, standalone freezes with the blue circle, and this will not resolve until I close the program down and reopen. More often than not, when I reopen, the reference has saved but not always. This has been happening intermittently throughout the last few days but very persistently at the moment.

Standalone 4.0.26.4
Chrome extension 4.0.26

For example tying to save this reference (but has happened with many others)

Error report: 1480616685 shows "attempting to use a disconnected port object"
  • The above report is from the chrome extension.

After reopening standalone, I also ran an error report ID 929020651.
  • How long have you let Standalone run?
  • I have to keep closing it down because of this!
  • It might have been open for a while before these problems started - is that what you meant?
  • What I mean is, How long have you let Standalone run with the blue circle (i.e. once it's frozen)? You should give it 10mins, ideally more like 30. (Obviously as a one-time thing. It might just be trying to process a large sync download or so).
  • I tried letting it run for more than 30 mins the first time it happened, but haven't the patience for that every time! I don't use sync, so it's not that.
  • OK, we'd need real time debug output for this then, starting right before you import and for about 1min or so afterwards with Zotero frozen:

  • Debug output at the following link:

This problem started happening while I was away from my institutional network (it has always worked fine, and then stopped working while I was away last week). I then worked back on my institutional network on Friday, and it worked OK again.

Does this help explain anything? I'm not sure why it would have suddenly started behaving differently. Nothing else was changed on my computer, and it happened while I was away from the institutional network so it can't be something do with a change to institutional settings. I guess the only change could be something to do with a standalone update?
  • and you're not able to copy the contents of the 2nd of those windows? All the relevant info (to the extent that it exists) is further down.
  • I've maximised the window, and also reordered last to first so you can see some more, but am unable to copy or scroll down.

  • To confirm my comments above, this problem is happening when I am away from my institutional network.
  • Any thoughts on what the problem is please? Need to use zotero off site.
