a way to select specific references

In a previous bibliography software I used there was an option to select specific references with a checkmark. It was a nifty way of keeping track of a list of references temporarily. You could then choose "marked records" and see all of the records you selected.

This has been on our list from the beginning, but it doesn't really provide much functionality that's not already possible by selecting multiple items and dragging them to a new temporary collection. It also runs the risk of cluttering and confusing the interface. iTunes, for example, has checkboxes, and I don't think it's particularly intuitive what they're for or how they work.

If there's a particular use case you envision, especially one that can't easily be accomplished in other ways, let us know.

Good point. I have found ways to work around it (like using temporary folders, like you describe).
