Reference

References does not copy in the correct format...example, when copying and pasting ref into document it paste as (-0.33) for indentation not the hanging tab format. How do I fix this permanently?
  • which citation style?
Generally, citation styles with numbers flush on the side of the citation don't work well with copy&paste into Word. They work nicely using the Word add-on, though.
  • APA 6th edition ...sorry
  • ok, maybe that is the problem , I saw that it did not have the add-on because it worked for me before
  • I found the problem it was word, preferences in word was set to Chicago style. thank you for stopping by
  • Ok its me again, Word is correct and Zotero standalone is correct. something is happening during the transition or transporting of information. Copy & paste does not hold format...any suggestions for APA format of Reference list?
  • yeah, if you care about the specifics of the indenting, you can
    1. Save as RTF from the Create Bibliography Dialog and open in Word
    2. Use the Word add-on to insert citations and bibliographies (actually use it--any settings you make there only affect citations/bibs inserted with the add-on) or
    3. Re-adjust the indenting after saving.

This is a weird thing that the Word clipboard interpretation does, I don't think there's a way to fix this on copy&paste.
  • Thank you adamsmith, I will take your advice...its funny I did not have this problem before.
  • The method I use with Word if I am inserting just a few references into an already existing bibliography is to copy-paste, then type Ctrl, then M. This tells Word to "Merge Formatting" of the pasted text into the existing bibliography format, which fixes the indent problem.

If I am building an entire bibliography from scratch, then I use Word Add-on itself (as adamsmith says above).
