Chrome bogarting data?

Hello,

Just installed Zotero after installing FF 3.0 today. I get this weird error msg and can't save anything. I reported the error: 1314037181. Looks like it's a javascript error, something weird like authorization denied to access the HTMLDocument interface, located in the... Chrome folder!!!
What I'm actually trying to save to zotero is my google library...
Does it mean I have to uninstall Chrome to get it to work?

Thanks in advance!

JGD
  • "chrome://" in Firefox/Zotero error messages isn't the same as Google Chrome, so no, you definitely don't need to uninstall Google Chrome to use Zotero.

Let us know a URL that you're trying to save that's failing.
  • Great thanks! Can you access this page?
    http://books.google.fr/books?uid=6599532369016593598&hl=en
  • Works for me. Does it by any chance work if you replace books.google.fr with books.google.com in the URL?
  • Nope. Still doesn't. I'm using Vista. Permission problems? And the very latest of FF.
  • Can you specify more of the error? Have you tried disabling other extensions and/or creating a fresh profile?
  • [JavaScript Error: "Permission denied to get property HTMLDocument.documentElement" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/translate.js" line: 554}]
JGD: Could you check whether "Accept third-party cookies" is enabled in the Privacy pane of the Firefox prefs? There's a bug in Firefox that can cause problems when that's disabled. (This will be worked around in Zotero 1.0.8.)

I'm working with Zotero this minute. What I should have said is that it works fine with OAISTER.
    The error is this:
[JavaScript Error: "Permission denied to get property HTMLDocument.documentElement" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/translate.js" line: 554}]

    [extra output removed]
  • Yes, "Accept third-party cookies" is enabled in the Privacy pane of the Firefox prefs.
  • It's possible this is a cross-domain issue, but the problem would likely be more widespread if that were the case. Try the steps in Troubleshooting Translator Issues, including disabling your other extensions. If those don't help, you may want to check if it occurs in a new profile.
  • If the above steps don't help, please send debug output for the save attempt to support@zot...org.
  • Known issues didn't help yesterday. I created a nw profile called "scholar". Same diff.
I'll get the debug report for you.
  • Done. You got it!
  • Thanks.

Just to be 100% sure, you've disabled all extensions in the new profile, including any in the application folder that are installed by default (e.g., the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension, which has been known to cause this problem)? Can you try disabling plugins as well?

I can't reproduce this in 1.0.7, but it's probably worth trying the latest 1.0 dev build in the second profile to see if it fixes this.
  • OK. Going to class now. Will do this this aft. Thanks!
  • Hey Dan,

I tried 1.0, but it still doesn't work for books.google and my_library (gg). It works fine in other places. Weird...

  • I'm on another machine now. Same result for Google Books. Two FF accounts, same difference. I've got lots of books for my research in my GG libray...
  • If you're still having this problem, could you tell us which extensions you've disabled? (Feel free to send the list via e-mail if you prefer.)
