Make a link to a pdf leads to error - restart of Firefox required

Zorero 1.0.7: I want to generate a link in Zotero to a pdf file on a drive instead of creating a copy of the pfd within the zotero database. I can select the file I want to make a link to, but whet clicking OK, it generates an error message, telling me that I have to restart firefox. After restart, the link is there and works OK, but to restart Firefox everytime I create a link...?
Any recommendations?

    Is your Zotero data by any chance stored on a drive on which the system doesn't allow programs to run?

    If not, you might want to go into your data directory, delete the pdftotext and pdfinfo files, and then reinstall them via the Zotero preferences.
