'view online' context menu item not working in zotero standalone 4.0.26.1

Whenever I try using the view online context menu item, it opens a blank firefox window instead. The command was working previously.
I have already submitted the error report. Id is 2024660934. Can you tell me what the problem is?

OS: xubuntu 14.04
  • Still works fine for me on OS X, and I don't recall our changing anything related to this recently, so I'm guessing this is an issue specific to either Xubuntu or your system. Can you provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) for the view attempt?

Also, to be clear, it's opening an actual new Firefox window with a navigation bar and all that, not a new tab in Firefox or a blank window within Standalone itself?

Also, what happens if you click the "URL" label in the right-hand pane instead?
  • Debug id is D149743772

To answer your earlier question, yes, it is opening an actual firefox window and not a popup kind of window.

Now, when I click on the URL in the right hand pane, I see the same behaviour, i.e. a blank firefox window opens up.
  • What's the URL in the field?

Please note, the mentioned problem is not specific to the above URL. I'm facing the same problem irrespective of whichever reference's link i try to open.
  • Wait, are you trying to open a webpage or a PDF? The debug output seems to show an attempt to open a PDF.

In any case, you can try the steps here:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/file_handling_issues
  • I'm trying to open the webpage related to the stored pdf.
Anyway I'll check with the troubleshooting steps and update you.
  • It seems that the problem was not with zotero. Any link (from any software) that i tried was behaving in the same way.
When I opened firefox preferences and rechecked on the 'make default' button, everything seems to work fine.
    Sorry for the trouble.
