[Part-Solved] JRE x86 / x64 troubles (LO 4.4.1.2 + Extension/Standalone)

Hello everyone,
I'm new around here but I hope you can help me.

I lost the possibility of using Zotero extension while updating to a newer LO version (I think it was some 4.x). Now I REALLY need it for my thesis writing.

I removed old extension and I keep hitting this error at installation of any zotero extension (tried stable and beta as well):
(com.sun.star.lang.IllegalArgumentException) { { { Message = "Cannot detect media-type: file:///C:/Users/a/Desktop/Zotero-LibreOffice-Plugin-3.5.9.xpi", Context = (com.sun.star.uno.XInterface) @5bdff28 } }, ArgumentPosition = (short) -1 }

I'm using LO 4.4.1.2 and just installed jre1.8.0_40 (sided by pre-existing jdk1.7.0_10) following some advices here:
https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/45274/libreoffice-4352-extension-javaloader-error/

Still, no clue how to fix the error shown above. Thank you for your support! :)

EDIT: Tried changing the extension into .oxt, it installed but doesn't work and doesn't allow removal either. New error:

(com.sun.star.lang.IllegalArgumentException) { { { Message = "Cannot detect media-type: file:///C:/Users/a/AppData/Roaming/LibreOffice/4/user/uno_packages/cache/uno_packages/lu2old32.tmp_/Zotero-LibreOffice-Plugin-trunk.oxt", Context = (com.sun.star.uno.XInterface) @5a91298 } }, ArgumentPosition = (short) -1 }
  • Where are you trying to install the extension? Are you using Zotero Standalone or in Firefox?

    I'm using the standalone one. I updated it to 4.0.26 and tried to install the extension from there: it prompted for an installation of JRE...this time x86!

    And it worked okay, at first LO launch, then the icons from the panel disappeared.

    I suppose JRE x64 was not able to deal correctly with the rest of x86 LO and Zotero. So it's partly solved, partly still messed up a bit :)
  • If you have standalone, then you already have the libreoffice extension installed and you don't need to download or install any xpi files. (You can verify this by going to Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions in Standalone)

    Whatever you did with the xpi (now oxt) file you should undo, if possible. For the rest, please see https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#zotero_toolbar_doesn_t_appear and follow the steps there. Let us know what you end up doing and what errors, if any, you receive.
