BBC translator does not store snapshot

When I save a web page from the BBC (e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-31692807) the snapshot does not appear to be stored. When attempting to open the snapshot I receive the mesage 'The attached file could not be found. It may have been moved or deleted outside of Zotero'. When I right click and choose Show File and then Locate, I am taken to a folder in storage that has just been created but that is empty.

Is there a problem with the translator?

With thanks, Martin
  • Which version of Zotero are you running? Is this Zotero Standalone? Which browser?
  • Thank you. I am using Zotero 4.0.26.1 with Firefox 36.0 on Ubuntu 14.10. I have just schecked using Zotero Standalone (4.0.26) and Chrome (40.0.2214.115), alson on Ubuntu, and the result is the same.

    With thanks, Martin
  • Just a quick query to ask if anybody has had time to think about this? I am running a Zotero workshop in my organization this coming Friday 20 March and I like to use the BBC as an example for storing web pages in Zotero. Many thanks!
  • I can reproduce this with Zotero Standalone running. Do you experience the same issue if you close Zotero Standalone? If not, you can use that as a workaround in the mean time.
  • Thank you for the response. This issue occurs with only Firefox running, and also with Standalone running with Chrome (with Firefox closed). I do not therefore see a workaround.
  • Hi all - I'm having the same issue with Zotero (Standalone v 4.0.26.2 with Safari (v 8.0.4).

I've tried it out with Wikipedia as a comparably common site & that works fine - files downloaded & saved. On the BBC website, I get the same empty folder situation, though Zotero is generating a hyperlink & details in the library entry.

Has anyone found a workaround / fix for this ?
  • We have a fix for this, but it's still under review. I don't have a workaround if you're not using Firefox.
  • Today BBC News switched to a new ite (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-31966686). On a hunch I retried saving a link (this one:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-32022546) and the snapshot was saved. This was with Firefox and Ubuntu - I haven't tried any other combination.
