Storage maxed up

I checked my storage online and it showed that I used 1696Mb of my 2gb storage. Then I exported some of my files out of zotero (~500Mb) and deleted them from library. Then I checked the storage and it was still 1696Mb out of 2gb. I import those files again and my storage move to 1999Mb of 2gb. What is the problem with the storage counter? Is it only going up?
  • my guess would be you didn't fully delete the items, most likely just by not emptying the Zotero trash.
When you then re-imported them, you created duplicate copies, so storage use went up.

(Generally, export/import operations aren't a great idea to manage your library, btw.; it will complicate things in any document in which you've used those items and it creates significantly more sync activity then necessary, meaning longer sync times on other computers etc.)
  • I fully delete them. the trash folder is empty and I searched for the articles and they were on in my library.
  • So, what should I do now? I just renewed my subscription today and I am sure I only have ~1gb on my library while my zotero account says 2gb.
  • It's hard to say. You could be overlooking something, like checking the wrong trash (which we've seen people do a fair amount--and trash contents don't show up in searches), you could have not have been fully synced before checking the storage counter--lots of possibilities. I don't think Dan would be able to tell you much more from the sync logs, though he may still take a look when he gets in.

The storage counter works, and it works both ways.
  • How are you sure you only have ~1gb in your Zotero database? What's the size of your storage folder in the Zotero data directory? https://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data
  • Seems like you figured it out? (Your storage usage is now much lower.) My guess is that you just hadn't yet finished syncing.
  • Yes. seems that everything should be sent to trash first, then trash should be emptied to decrease the used storage.
    Thanks.
