Importing ICJ Judgment Documents

Hi all,
I'm having trouble finding a way to automatically get citation information for International Court of Justice judgment documents. Some of the documents have an ISBN#, but when I input that into the "Magic Wand" tool, Zotero grabs an incorrect citation.
Is there a way to automatically grab the citation information for these documents?
Thanks in advance and best regards.

We'd need more specific details, including URLs and ISBNs you're trying.
  • Sorry about that.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Start Zotero.
    2. Copy ISBN (ISBN 978-92-1-071029-9) from Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Bosnia and Herzegovina v. Serbia and Montenegro) PDF of judgment. (File can be found here: http://www.icj-cij.org/docket/files/91/13685.pdf)
    3. Add Item(s) by Identifier.
    4. Input copied ISBN, as-is.
    5. Error message: "Zotero could not find a record for the specified identifier. Please verify the identifier and try again."
    6. Retry ISBN without dashes (ie. 9789210710299).
    7. Error message: "Zotero could not find a record for the specified identifier. Please verify the identifier and try again."

In any case, though, you aren't likely to get full details for citing an ICJ judgment from an ISBN repository. These really need a dedicated site translator - which would be much easier to constrict if the ICJ offered an API for their metadata ...

(A translator will eventually happen, but entering the details of the judgments by hand is probably your best bet for the present.)
  • oh, so Zotero doesn't grab an incorrect citation, it just doesn't find one. Like fbennett said, I'd expect that. Zotero checks the Library of Congress and Worldcat. If the item is in neither of those, it doesn't have anything to import.
