Sync error because of long tag

I have a really long, automatically added tag that caused an error syncing. I deleted it from the culprit reference, but the tag still exists in the tag database and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. I also tried deleting it through the tag selector, but it's still there, blocking the sync.

Deleting an item (which could be a blank dummy item you create) should purge the unused tags.
