Firefox 35.0 and plugins or synching

Firefox has been bothering me with upgrading to 35.0 with a disclaimer about not being able to guarantee the plugins for Zotero. I have a bibliography that I must protect. Are you aware of any problems between the new Firefox 35.0 and Zotero?
  • no, Zotero 4.0.25.2 works fine with Firefox 35.
  • Let me check and get back to you adamsmith should I have any issues.
  • adamsmith, I discovered that my Firefix update is 35.0.1 and it is saying that it finds the add-on for Zotero Word for Windows Integration 3.1.17 an issue. Why? Do you know anything about it?
  • Because 3.1.17 isn't the latest version:

(For what it's worth, if you don't disable updates and add-on updates in Firefox, you won't have problems like this. We are very careful to ensure that Zotero and its plugins are compatible with the latest version of Firefox, so if you just let it upgrade normally things should just keep working.)
  • that's not the most recent version of the Word add-on:

  • I was able to load your link above just fine for the laptop, but it is telling me that link connection above is lost for my desktop. Why? And can you give me another link?
  • what exactly is it saying? The link works.
  • It says: The link failed because of a connection failure with Firefox and it does not up date the extension in Firefox. So on both my desktop and the lap top the "connection failure is at www.zotero.org." The link may work, but the connection does not.

  • Okay adamsmith, here is what I have done: 1) On my Avast software I first turned off all shields including maintenance and smart scan; any scan anywhere. That did not work; 2) then I turned off Avast completely the whole program. That did not work; 3) I keyed into an area that asked what websites to exclude from them prowling around and I entered the URL https://www.zotero.org, and that did not work. HELP!! Zotero is under my control on both of my computers, so as the man says, right now I am s*** out of luck.
  • Let us know what you see for the certificate info:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/site_certificate_info
  • what does it say when you click on the lock icon at the top left of this page? (The "Verified by:" part)
  • Well, now I am more out of luck than I was before. It appears Avast has taken over the site and will not give it back. I have taken Zotero out of those items to be excluded but somehow Avast has claimed the "verified by" part and somehow it is claiming this URL forums.zotero.org when you look at "more information". Not to speak of the fact that now they claim that you do not claim an owner for the site.
  • no, that has been the case the whole time, that's why the download isn't working.
You're just not successfully disabling Avast WebShield.
Not sure what to tell you exactly, but that's what you want to be looking at--that's separate from the general virus protection, which will not interfere. You can probably google instructions for how to disable this. Other people haven't found that challenging.
  • It looks like because I included your website into Avast as one to exclude, I cannot exclude it from the software. It keeps coming back and has changed the verify by. I will look up how to disable Avast WebShield and get back to you when I see or do not see something significant.
  • Well, adamsmith, I must say thank you very much again; and tell you that you do not know how much you are protecting by skin. :) The verified is back to the original companies, Avast appears happy, and I have updated the extension on Firefox.

I have not installed the new Firefox yet, but I do have my last question for you. This add-on for the Microsoft Word end, how do I know (besides Firefox showing the update) that Microsoft Word has been updated? Does it show somewhere in Word? I have Word 2010 and 2013.
  • Firefox showing the correct version is all that's relevant. If it does, you're good to go.
  • Well adamsmith, as you said, "I am now good to go." Hooray!! Thanks again, you telling me where to go to fix Avast did the trick.
  • Hello,
I have just downloaded Zotero. I have collected my references. Now I want to enter this bibliography in my article, but I can't install the "plugin" that will connect word with firefox. I follow all the steps. It says that the plug in is downlaoded, then I start firefox again, but zotero never appears in my word pages. I have a Mac, firefox 35.0.1 and word microsoft 2011 for mac. Is someone having the same problem ? Do you know what I could do to resolve that ? Thanks !
  • start a new thread please and let use know which add-on specifically you installed.
