Random article added

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if I was the only one that had this weird issue. Currently, I have random article with automaticly assigned tags that are adding to my library. For example I'm adding polymer related content and many medical article are being randomly added. This firstly happenned without any action and an error message was displayed. Now, I keep having new unrelated article everyday.
  • can you track when these are added?
I can see two possible reasons for this:
    1. Someone is adding items to your library and syncing; most likely accidentally because you left your sync info somewhere on a public computer. I'd suggest changing your password.

    2. The items import accidentally together with what you really want to import. Zotero would almost certainly show that during import, though. I could see that happening when using identifiers or certain sites, especially Web of Science.
  • It happens more often when I use two computer at the same time with the same zothero library. And each time I make a mistake when typing the DOI, I might get 2 or 3 random articles with automaticly added tags.
  • I mean - mistyped identifier numbers can possibly cause some version of this -- if Zotero doesn't find a DOI, it tries PMIDs next, those would also have automatic tags. Why are you typing DOIs????
  • By typing I mean copy/pasting them, and sometimes it is not well shown on the article so I try what appears to be a DOI code. It would be logical that zothero relate those codes to a PMIDs text when this happens. But still, it happened only once or twice and I took the time to delete each of them when it happened. Now I currently have 11 random article listed in my library even if I took the time to check and delete each not wanted article last week. Also I immediatly changed my password the first time it happened, I also though someone else was using my library. To add to this, I also had an error message (which I reported) that randomly brought me many unwanted article
  • Sorry, your's is the only report of this we have, so I'm assuming this has ideosyncratic reasons. There's no way we can troubleshoot this with one report and no way to replicate it, so best I can tell you is to keep an eye out for regularities and narrow down how/why this happens.
To add to this, I also had an error message (which I reported) that randomly brought me many unwanted article
no one looks at error reports unless they're followed up on the forum citing the specific error report ID (it says so in the reporting dialog). Doesn't look like you did that, right?
  • I didn't, I'll post it next time it happens, Thanks for your help still.
  • This will mostly happen if there are spaces in the DOI (particularly in the 10.XXXX/X part). If Zotero finds at least one DOI in this form, it will not try looking for PMIDs.
