What's the difference between "View PDF" and "Open in External Viewer"?

Using Standalone, and these are the first two options in the context menu when I right-click on a record. They seem to behave the same way as to invoke my default PDF viewer. Are they designed only for Firefox?

    yes, they do the same in Standalone, differently (in browser vs. external viewer) in Standalone.
