How to import and export literature between Endnote and Zotero

I am new to use Zotero, and i use Endnote before, so i want to how to import and export literature from Endnote to Zotero? And the common questions when export literature from Endnote to Zotero. Thanks.
  • You can probably find the answers to most of your questions here:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/importing_records_from_endnote
  • (actually, we'd recommend using XML export from Endnote now, not RIS. Otherwise, exactly the same instructions, though).
  • @adamsmith, I was messing around with EndNote XML import today and it seems that XML import is not suitable for large library transfers (I was trying to import a ~60,000 item library). Because there is no stream parser for XML (and one might not make a lot of sense for us), the whole XML file has to be loaded into memory and parsed into a DOMDocument. This takes a HUGE amount of memory. The 360MB XML file ended up crashing Zotero after it used up 4GB of RAM. I didn't play around enough to find out what the upper limit may be on the number of items that won't crash. Basically, EndNote XML is good for reasonable size libraries, but if Zotero crashes when trying to import it, RIS is the way to go.
  • OK, we'll have to see how to best phrase that then. Probably some if--then type of instructions.
