error 80004005

just submitted this error 583061629.
Basically I use two computers both with Firefox 3.03. I keep getting this error:
[JavaScript Error: "[Exception... "'[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [mozIStorageStatement.execute]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/db.js :: anonymous :: line 123" data: no] [QUERY: DELETE FROM creatorData WHERE creatorDataID=?] [ERROR: constraint failed]' when calling method: [nsIDOMEventListener::handleEvent]" nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)" location: "<unknown>" data: no]"]

and I can't seem to sync my laptop - any ideas on how to solve this?
  • Please see if this still occurs in SP3.1, now available. If so, send us debug output for the sync attempt. Thanks.

    Not sure what you mean by SP3 (do you mean XP SP3? its installed) - I just did update the zotero sync to the latest version and now I get a different error massage when sync:

    [JavaScript Error: "this.docShell is null" {file: "chrome://global/content/bindings/browser.xml" line: 0}]

    [JavaScript Error: "New Zotero.Item objects shouldn't be accessed after save -- use Zotero.Items.get()" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/data/item.js" line: 3772}]

    [ ... ]

    [JavaScript Error: "obj.isAttachment is not a function" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/sync.js" line: 1588}]

    [JavaScript Error: "New Zotero.Item objects shouldn't be accessed after save -- use Zotero.Items.get()" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/data/item.js" line: 3772}]

    [ ... ]

    [JavaScript Error: "[Exception... "'Existing item 16402 exists in cache in Zotero.DataObjects.reload()' when calling method: [nsIDOMEventListener::handleEvent]" nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)" location: "<unknown>" data: no]"]
  • Not sure what you mean by SP3 (do you mean XP SP3? its installed) - I just did update the zotero sync to the latest version
    SP3.1 refers to the latest sync version, Zotero 1.5 Sync Preview 3.1.
  • Oh - O.K.
    I updated both computers to 3.1 and still get this massage on my laptop (the desktop is fine):

    [JavaScript Error: "New Zotero.Item objects shouldn't be accessed after save -- use Zotero.Items.get()" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/data/item.js" line: 3772}]

    [JavaScript Error: "New Zotero.Item objects shouldn't be accessed after save -- use Zotero.Items.get()" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/data/item.js" line: 3772}]

  • well - any ideas?
  • Can you send in a fresh error report after restarting Firefox and retriggering the error and post the Report ID here?

    sure here it is (after restarting FF):
    error number: 500407310
  • Thanks. Can you generate debug output for the sync attempt and send it to support@zot....org?
  • m... I tried to follow the instructions on the link but I did not get any output log (I did change the value to true in the config of FF).

    Also I am not sure to what adress shall I send this to even if I was successful...

    Why is this so complicated :(
  • I'm afraid I can't really help you beyond the instructions on that page.

    Regardless, the immediate fix for you (if less helpful for others who might encounter the same problem) would likely be to clear one side. If you don't have all your data on one side and need to transfer some via RDF, you'll want to wait for Sync Preview 3.2, which will be out later today, as there are problems with RDF export in 3.1.
    Why is this so complicated :(
    Because you're using alpha software. If you're looking for stable software, I'd recommend 1.0.7.
  • You need to make sure that you quit Firefox and then start it as indicated on the debug output page.
  • Maybe my problem is that I was using Zotero on two of my computers at the same time (FF open on the two computers...) I was not aware that this is a limitation of the current zotero version - its annoying actually - hope the new version will come soon.

    In the meantime I wasn't able to find the files I need to erase on the laptop - where are they located exactly it wasn't written in the instructions.

    P.S. Dan you said that I should be using version 1.0.7 - I am using zotero 1.5 and sync version 3.1 did you mean I need to downgrade to zotero 1.0.7? this sound strange as this is the "official" download from the main zotero website.

    B.T.W. I really like Zotero - it is a wonderful tool but I am not sure I really using it right in terms of what I am doing with it - I need to either read a LOT of manuals etc. or start asking a lot of questions in the forum (for example why can't it fill the details of the writer\year\name of book from Amazon pages) .

    Thanks for your help so far guys of course,
    Iddo

    This will not ultimately be a limitation of 1.5—in fact, 1.5 is designed for just that purpose—but 1.5 is still under active development and not all of the conflict resolution features are implemented, so you're more likely to run into problems if you use Zotero on multiple computers simultaneously.

    Troubleshooting Zotero Data
    P.S. Dan you said that I should be using version 1.0.7 - I am using zotero 1.5 and sync version 3.1 did you mean I need to downgrade to zotero 1.0.7? this sound strange as this is the "official" download from the main zotero website.
    No, 1.0.7 is the "official" stable release—i.e., the large Download button on the front page of zotero.org.

    1.5 Sync Preview is a preview release with an explicit data loss warning in bold red letters across the top of the page. Unless you're comfortable running alpha-quality software and would like to help us test and debug the upcoming version, you should use 1.0.7.
  • m.. I will have to take a much deeper look into the Troubleshooting Zotero Data page later today and report back - thanks.

    Can I downgrade to version 1.0.7 without a problem? (and how exactly).

    As I said I have lots of other questions but maybe I will start another thread in another forum.
  • Dear Dan,
    Success - I erased the data on my laptop and moved the data from the destop and all is well now - its seems that it can't really handale two FF open and changing things at the same time - hope you will be able to resolve this since I do work with both my machines on lots of times (one for work and one for university stuff).

    B.T.W. I am the editor of the online magazine The Future of Things and I asked one of our writers to try Zotero herself and write a story about it - we might even do a short e-interview with you guys - its a really nice project.

    Thanks for your help,
    Iddo
