Zotero unresponsive on Mac (Yosemite system) and safari

I cannot open zotero on my mac and i cannot download items from safari (the z is greyed out). I cannot believe I'm the only person with this problem.

why not? If this were a common issue on Yosemite, we'd have dozens, if not hundres of reports of it, so this is almost certainly something specific to your set up. What happens when you try to open Zotero?
