Can't remove Zotero.dot!

Can't find word 2010 startup folder! No way! Spent over two hours trying every possible permutation of C:\Users\My username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP\Zotero.dot
Went through the Word plugins, add ons, templates, etc. etc. The option to remove zotero.dot is greyed out!
I guess the next step would be to save any valuable documents elsewhere and completely uninstall word 2010!
I was unable to get zotero to work for me and now it is blocking the install of other programs and I can't get rid of it!

It should be pretty straightforward. Go to Templates and Add-ins in Word and look at the bottom of the window. It should tell you your current Word startup folder. Go to that folder — outside of Word — and delete Zotero.dot.
now it is blocking the install of other programs
Don't know what you mean by this, though.
  • Or follow the instructions here: https://www.zotero.org/support/windows_word_plugin_manual_installation_instructions#locating_your_word_startup_folder

The default startup folders are provided just for context, but they're not the way to go finding your startup folder.

Also note that the AppData folder might be hidden by default, so you might need to adjust your Explorer settings to see it. I'm guessing that's actually your issue.
  • What if the correct folder is located, Word is closed, and you get a message that it cannot be deleted because it is "open"?

Restart your computer for good measure, but Word is really the only problem that opens .dot files, so it may also not be fully closed.
