"short-title reference system"

I am searching for a citation style that matches or approximates the "short-title reference system" employed (so I am told) by UK publishers of work in History. I searched through the style repository but was not able to find a style that matched. Here are the examples I was given for the style:

Book, first full reference: T. Smith. 1988. Refugee Studies, New
York: Phaidon, 86.

Book, bibliographic entry: Smith, T. 1988. Refugee Studies, New
York: Phaidon.

Is anyone familiar with this style? Also, is there any way to see what notes will look like in the style repository? For most styles, it's only possible to preview bibliographic entries, meaning you have to install the style and give it a whirl before you discover that, in my case, it is not what you want!

Thanks in advance!
  • No, not familiar with that style. But you may be able to see if there's anything close using
    http://editor.citationstyles.org/searchByExample/
FWIW, to the extent that Oxford and Cambridge U Presses count as UK publishers, they mostly follow some variant of the Chicago Manual for History, sometimes MHRA.
  • Very good to know about the search feature. Unfortunately, in this case it did not yield any results (tried entering both book and journal article examples the press gave me).
  • No, if you don't get any result you're using the tool wrong. It will always return some styles, even if at a lower match %. Note that you can't just use the example references from the publisher. You need to format the citation data displayed on the left to conform to those guidelines.
  • Aha. Thanks. The instructions for the tool were not very clear. I see now that it works, though it did only return approximates.
