Standalone version: migration problem Windows 7 to OSX 10.8.05
Hello
Hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this issue.
I was running the Zotero standalone version on Windows, had created a library with multiple items, everything worked well, filed a bunch of stuff, saved library.
Have now installed standalone on OSX and imported a saved library (created in Windows). It shows all of the categories I created etc. and shows file types/names but it is not loading the associated files (the "storage" folder that I have moved over).
The "files and folders" paths have, I think, been set correctly.
Have set the "base directory" to a folder that contains a bunch of research materials at the following:
/Users/****/Desktop
but I take it this location can be any folder? It does not allow me to save a path that is a location within the Zotero application path (as it does for the data directory option).
I have selected the option "user profile directory" and set the "Data Directory" in OSX to:
/Users/****/Library/Application Support/Zotero/Profiles/8kwnfb1c.default
I moved the "storage" folder from the windows install to the following OSX location:
Users/****/Library/Application Support/Zotero/Profiles/8kwnfb1c.default/zotero
Have attempted to "rebuild index" but it is doing nothing.
I'm stumped at this point, and there is simply no way I am going to start from scratch adding content to a new library in the OSX install
Is it possible to do a seamless migration of a standalone library, and its associated media, from Windows to OSX (such that files are correctly linked and will open as normal)?
Cheers!

I'm also a little confused why you set a custom data directory at all? Why not just use the default since that's what you seem to want to be doing anyway?
From what you describe, you now have one Zotero data folder in ./8kwnfb1c.default and, likely, another Zotero data folder in ./8kwnfb1c.default/zotero.
So let's start by establishing what's in each of those folders (just provide a list).
sorry, to clarify, I didn't actually set a custom data directory, I see now that it is the default user profile directory I am using, so there is only one ./8kwnfb1c.default/zotero.
This is what's in it:
locate
pdfinfo-MacIntel
pdfinfo-MacIntel.version
pdftotext-MacIntel
pdftotext-MacIntel.version
pipes
storage
styles
translators
zotero.sqlite
zotero.sqlite-journal
zotero.sqlite.bak
there was no "storage" folder in there before I added it.
the storage folder contains folders with names such as:
823T3Q88
864T5PEU
889N4UXP
935X4ANU
976TSIK4
2646Q5I2
8345APGH
933333Q4
A7PZDZ7P
ABAFT3P4
etc.
I deleted the imported library and tried the version I had synced to the Zotero account at some point (index only), the files are displaying properly now and the storage folders are being addressed as normal.
However, I noticed that error reporting was showing the following:
[JavaScript Error: "bad script XDR magic number"]
[JavaScript Error: "TypeError: data[0] is undefined" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/collectionTreeView.js" line: 1314}]

since sync will work just fine, though, you should be good.
Those errors are nothing to worry about, I believe. The first one definitely not, the second one, as long as your items are displaying correctly, no cause for concern, either. Zotero logs a lot of problems, some of its own, mostly other Firefox issues, they're only relevant if something actually isn't working.
