Zotero not recognizing Word citations as Zotero citations

Occasionally, I encounter a citation where, when I try to edit it using the Edit Citation function, I get a "You must place the cursor in a citation to edit it" error. I submitted a debug report with such an error (Debug ID D943323601). The citation in question is in a Word table; all of the other (working) citations are also in the table. Copying the citation to another location in the document (in a table or in regular text) yields a citation that also can't be edited. The citation has not been edited manually.

Any thoughts on why this might not be working?
