moving library to USB drive for use with Firefox Portable

Hi there. So I just installed Firefox Portable 2.0.0.4 with Zotero 1.0.7 on my USB drive. I moved my Zotero library, in a folder called "storage," on to my USB drive as well. But when I go to Preferences and point Zotero to the storage file on my USB, I get a message saying the drive does not appear to be empty and that it does not appear to be a Zotero Data File. If I choose "select anyway," I still get nothing, an empty library.

Am I doing something wrong? I loaded my library off my Mac, but am trying to access it via the USB drive on a PC.

Thanks!

First: Firefox 3 is strongly encouraged.

Second: You may want to use the default storage location (your firefox profile directory) & just replace the "zotero" folder (after you have closed firefox) on your usb drive with the one on your desktop. This will ensure that the path is always right, even if the drive letter of your usb stick is changed.

If, despite this suggestion, you still want to customize the storage directory: In zotero, pick the "storage location." Then close firefox. Then copy your data from the "zotero" directory on your desktop into the directory on the USB stick you picked (replacing the items that were once there). Finally, start firefox to confirm that it works.
  • Also, you need to copy the entire Zotero data directory, including zotero.sqlite, not just the 'storage' directory.
  • Thanks! I got it to work once I copied the entire Zotero directory.

About Firefox 3--is that available as a portable app?

    Thanks again.
