I have tons of non-sense tags (leftovers from my mendeley library) that I was deleting one by one until syncing suddenly stopped working (TypeError: target.tagName is undefined). What shall I do?

That error should have nothing to do with syncing. (it can only be triggered by dragging-dropping items). Have you tried restarting Zotero to clear up any leftover tag references (shouldn't happen to begin with, but could be a quick fix for you)?

I restarted firefox and zotero several times.

Now I get an actual error ID from the failed sync: 313800935

There's a good chance this is due to your security software, so I would start by temporarily disabling that.
