Watch Folder?

Does Zotero have functionality to mirror a folder on the computer to update files as they are added. For example if we add a "watch folder" in Mendelay it will update the folder and contents in the REF manager as we add the files to the physical folder on our computer...
  • no. ZotFile has some components of it, but it doesn't work terribly well, at least for me it doesn't (and I think Joscha said the same).
I've discussed this with Dan (the thread his somewhere on this forum) and he seemed skeptical that it could be done with reasonable effort in a way that works across platforms.
  • If I find an article where I want to save the pdf file in zotero, I just click on the link to the pdf file and click in the context menue on save link as new item in zotero. Maybe, that is also a workflow which works for you.
  • doesn't work for e-mailed articles (for example), though and I believe save link as... only works in Zotero for Firefox, right?

I can certainly see a watchfolder being nice (though always remember that getting data via URL bar icon will give you better metadata)
  • I was speaking for firefox, yes (I don't use normally other browsers) and I agree with you that the quality of the metadata received via the URL bar icon (does there exists an official term for that? I sometimes call it the "zotero picker"...) is better.
