update firefox 3.0.2
upon updating to firefox 3.0.2 the zotero addin was gone.
i installed it again, because it is so quick and easy with the firfox 3.+, but maybe this was a mistake, because
now my literature database is gone!
does anyone have a hint where i can find the lost database ?
(from now on, i will use the feature "choose storage location")
edit: upon (re-)importing most of the literature data from a bibtex-file, none of the citations in a word document that i am currently working on are recognized, so i have to do it all over. maybe it would be a nice
FEATURE to generate the IDs of the citations from the citation data, e.g. authorname, date, journal,...;
that way publications could be exchanged and the zotero used by multiple authors without sending back an forth the database as well. - or have i overlooked something?

This is an old discussion that has not been active in a long time. Instead of commenting here, you should start a new discussion. If you think the content of this discussion is still relevant, you can link to it from your new discussion.
Were you using a custom storage location before? If so, it's likely that your Firefox preferences just got wiped out and you need to point Zotero at your old storage location. This has happened to some other users during upgrades and doesn't seem to have anything to do with Zotero.
It's also possible that you ended up with a separate Firefox profile (if you're also missing bookmarks, history, and cookies), in which case you should be able to switch back to your previous one.
I'd recommend searching your system for another zotero.sqlite file.
my bookmarks are all there, too, along with other addons (e.g. IE Tab) - only the zotero was missing.
a search of the harddisk for *zotero* did not deliver any results. in the ../applicationdata/Mozilla/firefox/
(which is also on the harddisk) no results were found.
if uninstalled and reinstalled, does the zotero automatically find old databases or does it overwrite the existing (default) folders? i could try that out of course, but, to be honest, i'd rather not risk that right now.
thanks for your help.
In the Advanced pane of the Zotero prefs, click "Show Data Directory". Does this take you to a 'zotero' folder within your Firefox profile? What files do you see listed in the directory? Is there a 'storage' directory? If so, does it contain files for attachments you previously stored in Zotero?
somehow FF switched the profiles after updating - i have different ones depending on my location / network configuration. i use these only rarely, so i forgot to update their addons.
now it all seems to be the result of my own chaos... sorry to have bothered you with it. at least this made me use the custom storage option.
thanks again for your help, i greatly appreciate the zotero and everybody who's working on it
