storage full?

When I originally started with Zotero I downloaded PDFs for all my references and I ran out of storage. I stopped doing that and manually deleted the pdfs from most the zotero records. However I am now again up to my maximum storage levels. I am not sure if I am just up to my limit I have 1500 records, or it is due to the snapshots or the pdfs not being removed properly?

You can tell that yourself. Just make sure you've emptied the trash in Zotero and synced.

Yes I have emptied my trash and synced but I am wondering what is making my database so big. Is 1500 the normal maximum size for bibliographic references with some notes and a few attached pdf?

The quota is for file storage, not items. Items are unlimited.

You currently have 300 stored files, not just "a few". (That 300 is different from the free 300 MB. It just means that your files are, on average, 1 MB.)
