Create Zotero Item

Is it possible, that when trying to save a interesting quote/citation to a 'new' note, it may be possible 'without' saving an entire webpage to the drive. For example, when reading and selecting from the context menu, then it creates a note - for example - with a following information:
______________________________________________________________________

"This opens new ways of thinking about and treating the cancers. If its stem cells are eradicated, the rest of a tumour may die off. And if the secondary tumours—the truly feared killers in many forms of cancer—are the result of stem cells escaping from a primary tumour, as looks likely, then this knowledge may make them yield more easily to treatment."

  • I hope I understand this right.
You know that, by selecting the text and right-clicking you can get the note and the webpage. I don't believe it's possible to just get the note without creating an item. I assume the reason for that is that you can do that very quickly by using the standalone note and copy pasting the text that you want.

Any reason you wouldn't want a snapshot of the webpage? along with your note?
  • First reason is, that by doing so it copies the whole webpage, which isn't always necessary - and with a huge collections can just waste too much space (yes, you can delete the page afterwards, but still..)

Second reasoning - it could be "cool", if you can for example collect some nice ideas/quotes/etc from different sources (without manually adding the www & date) in a one simple note. E.g. >>>

  • If a note is selected in Zotero, you can right-click on selected text on the web page and choose "Add Selection to Zotero Note". This doesn't currently add any metadata, however (or quotation marks, though that will change once there's HTML support and we can use <blockquote>). While your approach would have a bit lower overhead, the current behavior is premised on the idea that, if you're citing something, you should have an item for it in your library with proper metadata.
  • Yes, exactly - the question here is about storing information in a single note, and automatic "date tagging" by showing, when and from where it was taken. But let's wait and see then.

HTML support will be much appriciated.
