Customize the ordering of items in library/folder

I need to REORDER the items in my library, without sorting by any particular column. I need to be able to manually arrange the items in any order I desire. Is there a way to do this? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you
  • can't be done, sorry. Zotero isn't terribly useful as outlining software if that's what you're after.
  • It's a bit clunky but you could rename the collections/sub-collections with a number or letter (if more than 9) prefix:

    1.Earthenware
    2.Stoneware
    3.Porcelain

but this will require a lot of work if you do much moving around of these collections/sub-collections.

It is going to be a lot easier in the mind mapper of Docear (all platforms) or even Microsoft Word which has a good outline mode.

A free outliner for Mac still available but no longer supported is DeepNotes.

The most highly recommended app for Mac is Scrivener - I haven't tried it yet.

For Windows, apart from Word, there are a few free options:

    KeyNote (no longer supported)

and the newer version developed by Daniel Pradov
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/keynote-newfeat/?source=typ_redirect

For windows RightNote has freeware, standard and pro versions.

Apparently Microsoft's OneNote also has an outlining feature:

Another popular one is Natari's Bonsai. I haven't tried it but it is recommended on Dr Andus' Toolbox:

    All the best.
