[Report ID 1832839085] Word 2007 shutting down troubles

Hi all,

Since several months, I'm experiencing troubles when shutting down Word 2007 after using Zotero.

If I use any function of Zotero in a Word document, clicking on the Quit button no longer has any effect. Word process is still active (but not responding) and it's impossible to shut it down except using Task manager.

Its seems to be linked to a normal.dot modification issue by Zotero because when I open again a Word file after crashing, I generally have a message saying that normal.dot has been modified and asking if I want to save it...

If, in any Word file, I don't use any Zotero function (insert citation, refreshing list, etc.), Word shuts down without any issue.

Today, my Zotero version is 4.0.21.5 and Word add-on version have been updated several times of course. But the issue is still present whatever the verisons and the error has not been solved by any update up to now.

I hope I've been clear enough depsite my poor English and thank you very much in advance for your kind help.

Alexis
  • my Zotero version is 4.0.21.5 and Word add-on version have been updated several times of course
Update your Zotero 4.0.22 (is this Zotero Standalone or Zotero for Firefox?), close Word, then re-install the Word add-in via Zotero Preferences -> Cite -> Word Processors -> Install Microsoft Word Add-in

If the issue persists, please list all add-ins that you have installed in Word.

Additionally, open a fresh Word document, go to the Style Organizer and note the items listed in the right box (under Normal.dot) for both tabs (Styles and Macro Project Items). Now, perform an action in Word that causes the "Normal.dot modified" prompt and (before quitting Word) check the Style Organizer again. Let us know what the differences are.
  • Many thanks for your help.

I'm using the Firefox add-in version.

Unfortunately, updating to the newest versions didn't change anything, as previous times.

The links you're given were not working, so I tried to find the different menus by myself, I hope they are the right ones ;-)

The active Word add-in I've found are:
    - Acrobat PDF maker Office COM addin
    - Send to Bluetooth
    - Zotero.dot
(except Zotero, I don't really use the other two…)

In the style organizer, there is no difference between before and after the problematic action in the right frame (normal.dot). However, a "Bibliography" style appeared in the left frame (under the file name). I don't know if it helps…
  • There was no change under both tabs, right? And performing that action resulted in the message that Normal.dot has been modified?

If so, I'm out of ideas. You can disable the message that warns you about the modified Normal.dot, but that shouldn't be happening in the first place.
  • Macro fields were completely empty. In Styles fields, only the left field (under the file name) was modified, with a "Bibliography" style added (and not from my action, it was automatically created).
I tried to upload screenshots for illustrating (but fields are in French...)

    - Before http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2014/40/1411975681-styles1.jpg

    - After http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2014/40/1411975679-styles2.jpg

After taking the last screenshot, the issue was still there.

I've already disabled the normal.dot modification warning. But the real problem is the impossibility to correctly shut down Word after running Zotero plug-in in it... The normal.dot modification was just a clue for identifying the source of the issue.

I thought it was a bug from Zotero, but as I seem to be the only one to report it, it's more likely a problem with my configuration (option or so on...). I have to admit I'm a bit lost...

Anyway, many thanks for your help, aurimas !
