Questions about citation

Hi,

I have just started using Zotero, and I find it very useful to manage all kinds of sources. Anyway, I have some questions about citations with Zotero plugin in Word 2007.

Firstly, I want to cite the page 93 of the volume 2 of a book. With Zotero, I can cite the page or the volume, but not both things (I cite with the Chicago Manual of Style 16th edition, full note). For example:

- William H. Prescott, Historia Del Reinado de Los Reyes Católicos D. Fernando Y Da Isabel, trans. Atilano Calvo Iturburu (Madrid: Círculo de Amigos de la Historia, 1973), vol. 2. (The page number is not given).

- William H. Prescott, Historia Del Reinado de Los Reyes Católicos D. Fernando Y Da Isabel, trans. Atilano Calvo Iturburu (Madrid: Círculo de Amigos de la Historia, 1973), 93. (Now the volume is not given).

But this is what I want: William H. Prescott, Historia Del Reinado de Los Reyes Católicos D. Fernando Y Dª Isabel, trans. Atilano Calvo Iturburu (Madrid: Círculo de Amigos de la Historia, 1973), vol. 2, 93. How can I cite both the volume and the page?

Secondly, does Zotero work with original dates of publications? The book cited above was published in 1838, and this information must appear in bibliography and notes. How can I insert the original date of a publication in Zotero and that this information appears in bibliography and notes in Word?

Finally, as I write in Spanish, I want that words in titles does not start with capital. Although I introduce the titles in Zotero with a small letter, when I cite them in Word they appear with the first letters in capital (as usual in English). For example, the title of the book cited above must be writen in this way: Historia del reinado de los Reyes Católicos D. Fernando y Dª Isabel (in italics of course, but that is done automatically by the word processor, so it is not problem). Can I change this from Zotero, or I have to correct the titles in Word manually?

Thanks for any information,

David.
  • On the last item, if you enter "es" in the Language field (to show that it is a Spanish resource), the title will not be capitalized (in "title case"), even when a style requires it for English resources.
  • Hi, fbennett. I have been looking for the Language field, but I have not found it. Is it in Word or in Zotero? However, I have both programmes in Spanish. Thank you.
  • The language field is in Zotero. Every item time has it. I haven't checked, but I'd imagine it's "idioma" in Spanish.

    1) You'd add multiple volumes of a book as individual Zotero items. That also makes sense as in many multi-volume projects they'll be published in different years. Then you only cite the volume in question and add the page number and this will come out right.

    2) current no original date of publication, but that's planned.

Hi, adamsmith. Thank you for the information. Now I have found the language field. And I have installed the "Spanish Legal" style, which adapts citations for Spanish suitably.
