cannot start Standalone

I recently had Windows security updates on my personal computer yesterday. Today I used Zotero in my office and was working fine. When I wanted to run Zotero Standalone in my personal computer, it couldn't start up. There was an error message and a flash of the window.

I went to check in the forums and learnt about getting the error console. This is what is given:

Could not read chrome manifest 'file:///C:/Program%20Files/Zotero%20Standalone/xulrunner/chrome.manifest'.

1410424082143 addons.xpi ERROR Error during startup file checks

Timestamp: 11/09/2014 1:28:02 AM
Error: bad script XDR magic number

I had restarted my computer, made Zotero Standalone an exception to my security/firewall list, Zotero is up to date - version 4.0.22, Zotero Firefox has my updated work that I had done in the office. Only problem is that Standalone is unable to start up. Please advise.

Thank you.

Try reinstalling Zotero Standalone. Uninstall Zotero Standalone (this will not remove your library, but it's good to have a backup anyway). Go to C:\Program Files and delete the Zotero Standalone folder if it remains. Then install Zotero Standalone again.

If that doesn't help, find your Zotero Standalone _profile directory_ (one directory up from the _default_ data directory), go into the extensions directory (if it exists) and move everything out of that folder (you can delete those files if you want. Unless you installed some Zotero add-on yourself, there should be nothing there)
  • Problem resolved. Thanks!
