Several issues when using Zotero for Firefox with Aurora 33

Hi there,

Currently, I am experiencing some issues when using Zotero for Firefox (4.0.21.5) in combination with the latest version of Aurora (2014-08-23).

First, I cannot add items to my library using Web Translators. As normal, address bar icons are being displayed, but after clicking an address bar icon, I see a Zotero pop-up saying that some error occurred (containing a link to the "Troubleshooting Translator Issues" page). I am experiencing this problem since Aurora 33 is released. Tested against: http://worldcat.org/ and http://www.amazon.com/
(this issue looks comparable to the problems reported here: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/39234/tested-some-translators-for-ff-aurora-33-here-are-the-results/)

Second, I cannot add items to my library using Add Item by Identifier. After entering an ISBN, a pop-up with a yellow exclamation mark appears, saying that 'Zotero could not locate the requested item' (personal translation).

Third, I cannot export items from my library any more to some specific formats, e.g. BibTeX. Again, a pop-up with a yellow exclamation mark is displayed, saying that 'some error occurred when exporting the selected file' (personal translation). However, I can export library items to other formats, like CSV.

These problems do occur continuously when using:
- Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0
- Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.9; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0

These problems do not occur when using:
- Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0
- Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0

I hope these issues can be reproduced and fixed in the next release of Zotero. Within two weeks, Aurora 33 will be released as the next Firefox Beta.
  • (just to be clear, Zotero is made to work with the final release versions of Firefox. There's no guarantee it will work with the betas and it frequently won't).
  • First, if you're running a beta version of Firefox, you should be running a beta version of Zotero, since that's where compatibility fixes would first appear. Compatibility reports with Firefox Beta/Aurora are appreciated, but they should always be against the latest Zotero beta.

Zotero 4.0.22, available now, fixes things for Firefox 32, which is coming out later today. Firefox 33 compatibility will take additional work. (Mozilla has been adding a huge number of additional security measures that we have to deal with. I believe anything translator-based will be broken in the meantime.)
